Shrimp carbonara is a fantastic choice if you’re searching for a delectable, creamy pasta meal. Typically, Parmesan cheese and shrimp are used to prepare this dish. It sounds difficult to create, but it’s really fairly simple. Here are some suggestions for creating the ideal shrimp carbonara:

Use only fresh shrimp. Make sure you get frozen shrimp that has been thawed if fresh shrimp are not an option.

  • Watch out not to boil the shrimp too much. You want them to be just just cooked through and rosy.
  • Use Parmesan cheese of a high caliber. This will significantly alter how the food will taste.
  • Be careful to use high-quality pasta. A high-quality pasta will withstand the sauce and avoid becoming mushy.

What is the difference between carbonara and alfredo?

There are two pasta dishes from Italy that stand out among the others: carbonara and alfredo. What distinguishes these two fan favorites, then?

  • To start, alfredo is often cooked with butter, cream, and Parmesan cheese, whereas carbonara is typically made with pancetta, eggs, and Parmesan cheese.
  • Alfredo is normally lighter and creamier, but carbonara is typically thicker and heavier. Alfredo is often served with fettuccine, but carbonara is typically served with spaghetti or similar long noodle. Both meals are delectable, but carbonara is often regarded as the more traditional option.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb package spaghetti
  • 20 uncooked medium shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil extra-virgin divided
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper ground to taste
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 small onion minced
  • 1 cup skim milk
  • ¼ cup half-and-half
  • 4 large eggs beaten
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley

Instructions

  • Large saucepan of lightly salted water should be brought to a boil. Spaghetti should be cooked in boiling water for 12 minutes, stirring regularly, until soft but still firm to the bite. After draining, add the spaghetti back to the saucepan right away.
  • Over medium heat, put the shrimp in a large pan. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and salt and pepper to taste. For about 5 minutes, cook and stir shrimp until they are mostly opaque. Pasta with shrimp should be covered to keep warm.
  • The same pan is used to heat the final tablespoon of olive oil. Add onion; stir-fry and simmer for 5 minutes, or until transparent. Add the garlic and simmer for approximately a minute, or until fragrant. Cook for three minutes or until heated through after adding milk and half-and-half.
  • Pour 1/4 cup of the milk mixture into a bowl. Stir in the eggs and heat thoroughly. Add remaining milk mixture after pouring egg mixture over spaghetti and shrimp.
  • Top with Parmesan cheese and parsley.
